Australia changed who can be included on a Student visa application. The new rule applies to applications made on or after 2 October 2026.
What changed
Most Student visa applicants can no longer include a partner or children. This also applies when you apply for a further Student visa. Applications made before 2 October 2026 follow the old rules.
What it means for you
If you were planning to bring a husband, wife or children, check the Home Affairs changes page first to see whether an exemption applies to you. Do not book flights or housing for family until you are sure.
