How the process works
Studying in Finland means a residence permit for studies, a place at a Finnish university or university of applied sciences, and proof of money for your living costs. Here is the process from Nepal, step by step.
Get your study place
Apply in the joint application round or directly to the university. Keep the acceptance letter and any tuition or scholarship documents.
Prepare money and insurance
Have €9,600 in your account for a year of living costs, plus any unpaid tuition. Buy private insurance that covers medical and medicine costs.
Apply online in Enter Finland
Online applications cost €600 and are processed faster than paper ones, which are couriered to Finland.
Prove your identity at a Finnish mission
Visit the mission or the service point named in your application to show your passport and give fingerprints.
Key rules to know
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Tuition fees and your funds | Fees are on top of living funds If you pay tuition after applying, your bank must hold the first year's tuition plus living funds. Money meant for living cannot also count toward tuition. Last verified · Official source |
| Scholarships reduce the amount | Subtract your grant A living-cost grant or scholarship is subtracted from what you must show. With a €2,000 grant, a one-year student needs €7,600. Last verified · Official source |
| Health insurance | Private insurance required It must cover your medical and pharmaceutical expenses before the permit can be granted. Last verified · Official source |
| Bringing family | Spouse and children can apply Family members of degree students can get a residence permit on the basis of family ties, including a continuous (A) permit. Last verified · Official source |
