Master's and doctoral students at a public institution are exempt from 1 January 2026. Quebec students need a CAQ instead.

Common mistake: Exempt students must still show proof of the exemption.

For a single student outside Quebec, for applications made on or after 1 September 2026.

Common mistake: Older checklists still say CAD 22,895. That figure applies only to earlier applications.
