Sweden intakes and application dates

Last verified

Swedish universities admit through University Admissions, and you apply for your residence permit after you have a place. Plan the university application first.

Autumn 2027 dates

For master's studies starting in the autumn of 2027, the Swedish Institute lists these dates:

  • 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027: apply to master's programmes through University Admissions.
  • 1 April 2027: University Admissions announces the results.

Dates for other levels and programmes can differ, so confirm on University Admissions for each programme. You must also pay the application fee on time, and send your documents before the document deadline.

The two intakes

  • Autumn (August or September): the main intake, with the widest choice of programmes.
  • January: fewer programmes. Applications usually close in August the year before.

Working back from your start date

  1. Apply through University Admissions

Choose your programmes, pay the application fee and send your documents on time.

  2. Check your tuition fee status

Most non-EU students are liable to pay tuition fees. Your first tuition instalment is paid before your permit application.

  3. Prepare funds and apply for your permit

Show SEK 10,656 a month for the whole permit period (2026 rate). The Migration Agency processed 75% of recent first applications within 3 months.
