Sweden scholarships for Nepali students

Last verified

The best-known Swedish scholarship, the Swedish Institute (SI) Scholarship for Global Professionals, is not open to Nepali citizens. Do not plan around it, and be careful with any agent or website that says otherwise.

Why it matters

The SI scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly allowance and a travel grant, but only for citizens of 34 listed countries. Nepal is not on that list. You need to be a citizen of a listed country to apply, wherever you live.

For students from listed countries it gives:

  • full tuition, paid directly to the university,
  • SEK 12,000 a month for living costs,
  • a SEK 15,000 travel grant, and
  • no extra grants for family members.

What Nepali students can do

  • Study in Sweden scholarship database: SI advises students from other countries to look in the database on the Study in Sweden site. Check each entry for its country and level rules.
  • University scholarships: Swedish universities run their own awards and waivers. Read the scholarships page of every university on your list, and note the deadline.
  • Plan to self-fund: for the permit you must show SEK 10,656 a month for the whole permit period (2026 rate), plus proof that your tuition is paid or covered. See our cost guide.
